September 1973 - Photo by Duxbury Fire Department. Follow the link on the Ocean Bluff to the John Corrigan site. One of his videos has a lot more information about fighting the fire. It was just after Labor Day week-end (Sept 5?) and the alleys were being refinished for the Fall bowling league season which was probably the cause of the fire. Luckily the building next door (Eli's Linens in 1960)had already burned. It is a miracle that Peterson's store was saved. It was being used as a plumbing supply store at the time. The Esplanade has never been the same since!
