The Survivor Tree, an American Elm,
bears witness to the violence of April 19
and now stands as a profound symbol of human
resilience. The circular promontory surrounding
the tree offers a place for gathering and viewing the memorial.

This area was once a parking lot and the tree
stood in the middle of it, adding it's cooling
shade to the area and creating many coveted parking places.
Cars and debris were found in the charred remains of
the tree and many thought the tree would not,
could not survive. But survive it did and does.
