Stroll along the boardwalk of Allen Street, have a drink at the Crystal Palace (no guns allowed),
or take the stagecoach for a short drive to the state landmark courthouse. Visit the notorious and famous Birdcage,
a non-stop 24 hours saloon, theater, gambling house and brothel, all under one roof.
That’s where “Doc” Holiday, a dentist converted into a gambler used to play cards.
In 1881 Tombstone had four churches, two banks, three newspapers, 110 saloons, 14 gambling halls, several dancing halls and brothels.
In its heyday, the Tombstone population was around 14,000. Now it is about 1500, give or take a few.
What remains today is a fascinating reminder of the true Wild West.
