A friend told me about your note. Thanks for writing!

I rowed with Bill in college every year but 1963, the year of the photo – I was the manager that year.

Bill and I had scholarships to St Joe and we rowed a pair together as sophomores and did well. John Gercke, Bill and I used to go camping together in my VW…. A good way to break in a new car. : )

What a surprise to find pictures of my brother, Bill Pennartz, on the web. I was looking up St Joe Prep rowing and found your site.
Yes, Will is my nephew ( Joanne's son ). He's doing quite well for himself in California.
Your brother, Joe, was my college ( Drexel ) crew coach. Please say Hi to him for me.

My gosh Will!

I just now found your message. I am glad you found the photo's of your Dad. I rowed with your Dad but was unable to row in 1963 because I had emergency surgery that year. I was fortunate enough to be your Dad's good friend in College. We kept in touch. I know times were rough for him. We last talked about getting together and rowing for old times sake just a couple of weeks before he died so suddenly.

Your Dad and I, we loved rowing the pair together. We were named subs for the PanAm games but we couldn't go because we would have lost our rowing scholarships. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't talk about that much. I am lucky to still be involved with rowing.

Can you tell me a little about yourself? Is Joanne your Mom? I last bumped into her at Cherry Hill Mall when I was back east a long time ago, but I remember her well.
