Hemlock Falls

Hemlock Falls 25' (2 falls) is located in the South Mountain Reservation, West Orange, NJ (Essex County). There are two waterfalls in the West Orange side. Follow the yellow trail (main trail less then .25 miles) you will come to the first fall, if you walk over the small foot bridge and walk another 50’ you will see the other falls. Go ahead and explore the area… you can get up and close to the two Hemlock Falls. This fall may not be falling in dryer weather (mid-summer) so it best to go after a good rainfall. This fall is a simple and pleasant walk from your car.

From Rt 280 get off at Northfield Ave, go west to Cherry Lane (turning from the right-side just past Turtle Back Zoo) make a Left on to Cherry Lane (go around a mile on CL). There are two places to park. You can park in the Boy Scout parking lot – stay left after you turn into the parking lot go to the end and park. Then look for the footbridge and cross over South Orange Ave (CR-510) -OR- Take Cherry Lane to South Orange Ave. Make a Left onto South Orange Ave (CR-510) and park on the other side of the footbridge (it comes very quickly so stay alert). There are old no parking signs on this side of the footbridge but it seems that a lot people park here – so use your own judgment!
