Asbury Park, NJ

Asbury Park, NJ the town that Bruce “the boss” Springsteen loves, and now a city in ruins. It is now mid-summer 2003 and Asbury Park was once a Mecca of the Jersey shore, now a town in shambles. All is not lost there is a reconstruction project planned for Asbury Park, and part of the plan is to keep most of the historic buildings/landmarks intact.

You have a lot of great Jersey shots in your galleries, love the find of the Jersey City Lighthouse.

It is amazing that some of this (Asbury) is gone and some still looks exactly the same.
You should come down & update this gallery with some of the new look around town.

I grew up here in the early 1970's - man do I have fond memories of this place - so much history and lore - I pray for Asbury's revival - "The Rising" as The Boss sings.....

Spent the mid eighties and early nineties stopping in Asbury for a cold beer at Dugans! Remember Dugans Stout House?

Now I live 20 minutes North in Shrewsbury, NJ with my family.

Asbury was always a stoned haze for me.

What a sad story. I visited the city a few times in 1971 when stationed at Fort Monmouth, and it's a crying shame to see the condition it's in now. Thanks for the gruesome update.

WOW! These photos are great, but very sad. I grew up in Asbury Park and I remember how it was in the 60's and 70's. I had a lot of good times there, and to see it now really breaks my heart. *sigh* Big THANK YOU for sharing! Keep up the good work!
