I only have a few minutes with this reporter and I'm amazed that she was able to digest the gist of that conversation. To correct some important points cited in this article:
1. The Cebu Flowerpecker was considered extinct since 1906 and was rediscovered about two decades ago (1992) in a tiny patch of forest in Tabunan, Central Cebu. This bird is considered by many as one of the rarest birds in the world.
2. The canary flycatcher in this article is actually the Black Shama, an endemic bird found only in the island of Cebu and nowhere else in the world. This bird is considered relatively common in Consolacion, Cebu in the past. However, recent conversion of its habitat (housing development) may have affected the population in this area.
