During the Vietnam War, these aircraft were used to spray Agent Orange.

Was Agent Orange flown out of Mactan Air Base during Vietnam? Was Agent Orange also stored there?

Thank you for your comment JOMEL. It is nice to read your names of actual Air Force personnel who were once associated with the C-123. :)

My father is a retired airman (PAF), i want to inform some of the guest here that the C-123 is once part of the Philippine Airforce air asset, i used to take those planes when i visit my grandparents. Those planes were all grounded now, one plane the C-123 with t/n 624 is still on display today(sept 21, 2014) near the Airmen's Village at the Benito Ebuen Airbase (formerly Mactan Airbase) i knew some PAF pilots who flew those planes before, Col Winston Nietes( test pilot), Maj Gomez(went to Angola in the 8o's), and crew members with such names as TSGT Sarad(location unknown), SSGT Dayot and 2LT Wilfredo DIaz who were presently(sept 21, 2014) living with their family in the town of Dingle, province of Iloilo, Philippines. Col Nietes have already passed away years back after serving as deputy base commander of the 560 ABW in Mactan. a certain Col Distura an aircraft mechanic also passed away in his hometown in Dumangas, Iloilo, Philippines. The last time i think that i saw it flying (if ever it did fly) was in the movie Con Air starring Nicolas Cage. The plane in the movie is a C-123 plane.

The PAF was given 16 C-123Ks from MAP stocks in Feb 1973 they were assigned to 220 HAW/221 HAS. Korea and Thailand also received 16 each from MAP stocks this date. These were combat aircraft and had not been cleaned out or painted in about 10 years.

C-123s were replaced in vn 1971-73 by usaf c-130Amodels. The C-123s were sprayers and were never cleaned out. I flew several sorties in PAF C-123K 624 to deliver radar sets to Lubang Island in 1980-81. These C-123s were full of the sray after 7or 8 years spraying it in Vietnam. It was fun to fly with the PAF in the C-123. However, we were not told these aircraft were containinated and as a result I have diabetes and have lost my legs as a result of my flights! Would love to hear from Captain Pobres of the 221 HAS

Hi Don, I don't know when the C-123s were flown into Mactan. I don't think the Philippine Air Force had anything to do with Agent Orange which was solely a USAF operation.

Did the c123 fly into Mactan Air Base in 1968 and 1969? Did they fly Agent Orange from Mactan to Vietnam?

Hi Guest who commented on 25 July. This is an authentic photo.
Per Wikipedia, "Museum examples of C-123s include those located at: . . .
Benito Ebuen AFB, Mactan Island, Philippines, PAF"
