Romance of the Red Shouldered Hawks -- Jan. 5, 2008
I had just finished loading the kayaks when I heard the loud shriek of the Red Shouldered Hawk. It landed in tall tree next to me, about 40 feet high. It started preening, and spreading its wings (something I had not observed before) and looking about. After a few minutes another RSH started shrieking (as I later discovered; a love call), and as I looked at it it suddenly landed atop its waiting mate for some romance. A few moments later, he perched on the same limb, looked about, and within another few moments flew off. I thought it might return...but it did not. All the photos were shoot 2 stops over exposed and even then lightened with Lightroom (shot in raw). Your comments and a possible vote would be appreciated.
