According to Maori legend this tree is the son of Ranganui, the sky Father and Papatuanuku, the earth Mother. Tane tore his mother and father apart from the primal embrace bring light, air and space to the world to allow life to spring forth.
The tree is the largest living Kauri in New Zealand, with a trunk height of 18m, a total height of about 52m, and a girth of 14m
