As illustrated by the brushy confusion of a secondary forest, the primitive contains complex networks of intertwining systems. I seek to display the inner-connection of these systems with the use of subjects presented simply within their environment. Recording objects or scenes faithfully is secondary to describing the diverse energies an event presents to our senses and intellect.
It is my hope that anyone who has viewed my work will approach a primitive area with a new perspective. They will take a deep breath, be still and wait in silence. They’ll allow time for the area to recover from their intrusion, walk a few steps, stop, wait, then a few more steps, and stop again. It is surprising how much wildlife can be seen when moving through the woods like this!
I have worked and lived in the Pacific Northwest all of my life and feel a deep appreciation for the ruggedness and delicate beauty of the people and landscape, here, where our civilized world meets the primitive.
