Melbourne December 4 -


Well we finally completed our long voyage across the Tasmanian Sea and landed at Melbourne (pronounced Mel bon by the natives). What a great place! We took a tour this morning and spent about 4 hours running around trying to see everything. The streets are wide and there are numerous beautiful parks and gardens. It is an interesting mix of Victorian and modern architecture. We did go up in the Eureka Tower which opened in 2006 and boasts that it is the tallest building in the southern hemisphere. We were on the 88th floor and it was a great perch from which to see the sights of Melbourne and we could even see the ship. I could spend a lot more time in Melbourne. It was really unfortunate that could only spend a day there. The original itinerary of the ship had us spending two days there, but we heard that there was no space at the port for the ship to dock so the two days was reduced to one day. We did see where they play the Australian Open tennis tournament. Looks like a great venue for tennis! We may have to go back. 
 
We pulled out of port this evening at 6 pm and are now back on the high seas. We will have come full circle when we dock on Saturday morning in Sydney.
