09_08_08 KateGettingReady

Had to be inventive in a short space of time tonight...Me and my better half went out for a nice meal in town..this is her getting ready....(lots of time to get a shot then ;) )

Portraiture is something I want to get better at.... Hopefully the Exif info should work on this shot..figured out that the photo editing software I've been using was stripping it away!

haha --funny that you said you had enough time to take this shot. :-)
you mentioned that you want to get better at portraits? well, im certainly no expert but i've discovered (and read from others) that you first want the background to not overpower the subject. simply enough. ways to do this include using a large aperture (small fstop). so in this case, i would have made the aperture f/3.5 (largest you can get for this lens). but then it means that you have to use a wider angle (because the lens is not linear unfortunately) so then i would move closer. a great portrait lens is the 50mm f/1.4 or 50mm f/1.8. with these apertures you can really do a lot (and it's a great nighttime lens). the 1.4 is about $300 but the 1.8 is only about $75. I got the 1.4 and I use it WAY more than i ever thought i would. again, i'm not a pro, but i'm just trying to give constructive feedback like i enjoy recieving on my photos. overall i really enjoyed browsing through your galleries and you have some fantastic shots! thanks for posting...
