Atmos Energy and TXU had crews working the area to check for possible gas leaks that could have lead to the fires starting and electrical problems (all the investigation revealed that there were no gas leaks at the time).

You can see cracking in the bricks of the tower that occured from the extreme heat though it is later found out during the demolition that the whole inner layer of bricks in the theatres construction were fire bricks.
