This Church was over 100 years old when the battle at the Alamo occured in 1836. This recess would have held a religious statue in it. There are a few statues in various displays on the grounds of the Alamo but I do not believe that they have the actual statues that sat in this location and in the other one on the opposite side of the entryway.
