I dug out this hole in a low spot, placed a flat rock in the bottom and waited for rain water to fill the hole enough so I could pour it by hand into a 1/2 liter water bottle to drink from. The water was gritty and full of sand but luckily no microbes. I drank about 1 liter of water and filled the bottle up to carry with me.
