Art Along the Good Lattimer Tunnel that leads into Deep Ellum w/demolition updates as of 10-27-06

This is an old Rail Road "Tunnel" that drops down to go under what was a major number of Rail Road Tracks that was built in 1930. This leads into the Deep Ellum Entertainment District the RR Tracks were abandoned over 20 years ago and the local art community has turned the walls of the tunnel into a giant canvas. Misc Graffiti that does not add to the art work is being removed from the pics. (I will show the Monkeys before and after as an example).
I went back to the tunnel in early October and shot a few shots after demolition had just started and then also went back on October 27, 2006 where I show heavy demolition work going on on the one side of the bridge. The other side of the bridge was not being demolished so that traffic could still use it on top and under. Also I did not see any effort to remove/protect any of the murals for preservation which had been said would be done by a DART spokesperson.

thanx for the images of the tunnel, and of the artwork in it,...by the way u didn't seriously believe those a'holes at dart when they said they would preserve those murals didja? I knew damn well they wouldn't.....sure gonna miss walking into that tunnel though

This makes me so sad.I lived in Dallas at the tail end of 05 and I loved that wall.I dont think its fair that they tore it down.I personally think it shoudl have been kept as some sort of historical art marker...those artists worked so hard on mot of that wall....Its awesome that you took the time to capture this wonderful piece of dallas history....

This is some excellent documentary work. I remember traveling through this 'tunnel' as a kid with my parents, and then later as an adult simply to look at the artwork. This is really some good photographic work. Way to go.

thanks for documenting this. it just blows my mind to think DART's gonna destroy this landmark. curse them!
