Hi Pete,

great examples of IR with the 7d, inspired me to give it a try. I've gone out a couple times to experiment and it's been fun. May I ask, how do you prevent color streaks in the corners of your frame? this has been my main battle (no matter how well I block the viewfinder), I've tried my few lenses with no luck, thinking of some older glass, 24-50mm f/4 maybe or some prime in that range.

Hi Pete,

I'm quite happy that I found your pictures because I want to find out if it is possible to take IR-pictures with the 7D. Most people claimed that it's not possible, but these pictures prove it can be done.
Did you try any other lenses than the 50/1.7 and the 28/2.8?

Hi David:

You probably know by now that the KM DSLRS are profoundly blind to IR. Being SLRs, you will not see anything in the finder through the filter. you will have to frame and focus with the filter off and then put it on for the exposure. I use the meter in the camera and add seven stops to the exposure to get in the ballpark. You can of course review the image on the rear LCD. I use ISO 200 and shoot in RAW. "White" balance is done in post processing with Dalibor's plug in in photoshop with the eyedropper tool on something dark like a tree trunk to arrive at the most pleasing ( usually a little sepia) color with the hue adjusted also to suit. You will have long 2-3 second exposures even in bright light so the day has to be calm if you want to catch leaves without blurring. Watch the light coming in through the eyepiece during these long daylight exposures. Use the eyepiece cover. I've found the 28mm f/2.8 and 50mm f/1.7 lenses are the best so far.

pete, i recently upgraded to the maxxum 7d for my minolta system and am interested in you techniques and processes for ir images with the 7d. the manual makes no mention of it and when i attached a r72 to the lense the screen was blank and i had nothing to build on. can you walk me through the process to get me started? thanks and really enjoyed your work. take care.
