Zoom Ring Tape2655.jpg

The rubber zoom ring cover can be slipped off by slipping a thin wood
tool (such as a popsicle stick) or other non sharp object and working off to the back of the lens.
There is no tape or adhesive used on the rubber. If the rubber ring is oxidized (white) it can be scrubbed with detergent and a toothbrush and renewed with armor-all.

Remove the tape that retains the rear zoom trim ring.
Mark it's position for alignment later.

For me, removing the rubber grip was the toughest part. First it took me 10 mins to understand how. So I was able to slip it using a toothpick, similar to the one I used to hold the spring. Then I had to remove the grip by grabbing it with my fingers and sliding it towards the mount, repeating from different sides. I had to repeat the same while mounting it back on. After I was done, there was a burning sensation in my fingers. I still have it at the time of writing this.
A big thanks to Pete for his instructions. I fixed a jammed focus ring using these instructions. I live in Minnesota too.
