I have never seen a caterpillar with those little "horns" before. It is called an osmeterium*.
I had my family for our Easter celebration yesterday, so did not have a chance to
post this one.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter....I did, with all of the family here yesterday
singing in the choir at the Easter Vigil last night,
and today a trip to a lovely buffet with my daughter and her family in Austin....
then a much needed nap!
* Normally hidden, this forked structure can be everted when the caterpillar is threatened, and used to emit a foul-smelling secretion containing terpenes.
