15-MAY-2005 24 days to go

05/16/05

It must be "Anole week". I've been admiring Gayle and Elaine's anole photos and tried a couple of times to get one this week. Yesterday afternoon I saw one out my kitchen window....grabbed the camera. Of course, he headed down the bench, but I got into my contorsionist mode and this is the results. He was hiding behind some Inland Sea Oats, but I think they make a nice frame. I did nothing except cropping. The uncropped photo is below. If you look closely you can see the faint color under his "chin". It is called a dewlap and used for courtship or territorial display.

He is such a beautiful green, and so clever of you to co-ordinate him with his surroundings! ;) Great catch ...

Nice Petesie. Totally understand the "contortionist mode"...was doing it on top of a ladder last night trying to shoot baby robins. It paid off for you.

You got a great shot of his skin and eye. If you want him to puff up and show his dewlap you sweetly say "Lizard, lizard, show me your gizzard."
