Dung Roller Beetle

Adults gather fresh dung which they form into a ball,
in the center of which the female lays an egg. Then
both sexs roll this food store to a suitable location
and bury it. The larva hatch and feed on the dung,
there being a suffiient supply to feed the larva until
it reaches maturity.

What symmetry! They walk backwards, or roll with their hind legs, don't they? What a wonderful world we live in, really, when you think about it. Funny that a dung beetle expresses this to me -- but it does.

Very nice image of a "tumblebug," a scarab beetle in the genus Canthon.
