The Plover Project 2006

We have a couple of Plovers, Masked Lapwing (eastern), nesting in our front yard. Smack bang in the middle of the lawn, right under a very high gum tree. 4 blotched olive green eggs in a very shallow nest. Only a few things twigs stacked around to stop the eggs from rolling away I suppose.
They are not too impressed when you come close to the nest and will vigorously defend it with flying diving attacks and lot's of noise. The sharp claws on each wing can clearly be seen in one of the pics. I wouldn't want to be scratch by one of them in high speed.
I rigged up the camera on the tripod and with the wireless remote and stepped back around 25 meters. Once the female, or male (who knows?), had returned, a let the remote loose, and they didn't seem to care the camera was only 4-5 meters away from them, clicking away.
I'll try and monitor their progress and post more pics once the chickens have hatched.
