Kilauea Eruption

My wife and I had the amazing experience of watching the Kilauea volcano erupting a lava fountain in the Halemaʻumaʻu crater at Volcanos National Park on Hawaii Island. The photos show what the eruption looked like but the sensations of the moment are missing. The fountain sounded like a massive, surging waterfall while volcanic heat warmed our faces and a chill wind blew and spit rain on our backs. Simultaneously, I wanted to move closer and wondered how it could possibly be safe given the vast amounts of scorching volcanic gas spewing with the lava. Pele, goddess of fire, lightning, wind and volcanos is awe inspiring. The eruption was the most dramatic, mesmerizing spectacle that I have ever witnessed.
