Hyde Park and St. Mary’s

Located at the eastern boundary of Sydney’s central business district (CBD), Hyde Park covers 16 hectares. It is notable for its two WWI monuments, the Archibald Fountain and the ANZAC War Memorial.
The 1934 ANZAC War Memorial commemorates the sacrifice of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) in the futile 1915 Gallipoli Campaign when they suffered 10000 dead.
Across College Street from the northeast corner of Hyde Park is St. Mary’s, a Roman Catholic Cathedral. It is the largest church in Australia. It was built in phases starting in 1868. Constructed in Gothic Revival style, it is 107m in length and has twin 74 m tall front towers & spires.
