The prefecture-level city of Foshan is located on the most fertile area of the region.
We visited 祖廟, which is actually a Taoist temple dedicated to the northern water god Beidi 北極玄天大帝. Although the name “祖廟” can be directly translated as ancestral temple, it got the name from being the first temple of the area, dating back to the 11th century. After destroyed by fire, its reconstruction started in 1372 and continued to expand. Like most temples in China, it is now a museum.
Next door is the 黃飛鴻紀念館, memorial hall for kung fu master Wong Fei-hung (Huang Feihong).
