Bronze statue of Czar Alexander II of Russia (1818-1881) on Senate Square with the Helsinki Cathedral on a hill in the back.
Alexander II was remembered for his reform to free Russia's serfs in 1861. But in Finland, he was remembered for granting Finland's autonomy within the Russian Empire and elevating Finnish as a national language in 1863.
