The 6-story base of this building was commissioned by William Randolph Hearst and completed in 1928 as a foundation for a future skyscraper that was postponed indefinitely due to the Great Depression. The new tower, completed in 2006, was designed by British architect Norman Foster. It was the first office tower in NYC designed with environmental considerations. This 46-floor tower houses the HQ of Hearst Corporation plus its magazine publishing and TV empire.
