This is the square south of the Queen Victoria Building (QVB).

The 1904 statue of Queen Victoria by Irish sculptor John Hughes was originally installed in front of Leinster House in Dublin, the future seat of the Irish parliament. By 1947, the Irish had enough of the British monarchy and the statue was unceremoniously removed. During the restoration of the QVB, a search for a suitable memorial of the queen located this neglected item. Ireland gave this statue to the people of Sydney in the spirit of "goodwill" in 1987.

The hot pink hopscotch was one of the STREET WORKS temporary installations called “Walk the Line” by Hassell along George Street.

In the background are the 1880 Sydney Town Hall and Norman Foster's 2007 Lumière Residences.
