4 days of birding around Petburi and Bangpra 14-17th of January 2010



William Tucker had arranged for a 4 day trip before his upcoming trip in Thailand with Fieldguides. He felt he needed to make sure to get the Spoon-billed Sandpiper as well as visiting some habitats not included in the trip. Thus we did not visit any Nation Parks but birded in marginal areas and away from parks.

We managed to get the Sandpiper fairly quickly and got some other birds he wanted:
Nordmann’s Greenshank, White-faced Plover and Pallas’s Gull.
He was also thrilled with the many Ruddy-breasted Crakes at the King’s project.

At Bahng Song Nok, Kaengkrachan we had long looks of other wanted birds such as
Scaly-breasted Partridges, Lesser and Greater Necklaced Laughingthrushes and Siberian Blue Robin. A pair of Khalij (or are they Silver) Pheasents was an added bonus. We also had the sometimes hard to find Vinous-breasted Starling.

At Khao Look Chang William added Red-breasted Parakeets, Lineated Barbet
and Rufous Treepie to his lifelist.

A second visit to the King’s project added White-winged and Rosy Starlings, the latter a lifer for me.

A visit to Bangpra gave Chestnut-capped Babbler, Chinese Francolin, Racket Treepie, Asian Barred Owlet, White-crested Laughingthruses and a few more.

At the King’s Park in Bangkok we had some lovely Emerald CuckooS.

All in all we saw 165 species and 34 of them were new for William
