Brown-winged Kingfisher

Krabi, mangrove forest

Here is a front view of the same bird I posted yesterday. It is quite remarkable really that I got these shots. It was about 4 pm and generally very quiet in the mangroves. I was feeling a bit low for a number of reasons and also a bit philosophical, thinking how everything in one's life really is a gift of God, no matter how small or big. Thinking how little I myself can do to control circumstances not only in daily living but in practical matters like bird photography.

Than, all of a sudden, seemingly out of nowhere, this wonderful bird flew in to perch on a branch only 7-8 meters in front of me. I even had to back step to get better angle to my shots. After a number of front poses it abruptly turned around and gave me side vies before it flew off to not appear again.

I felt very encouraged and saw it as a little sign that someone does loves me and does care and knows how to bring about the little personal things that my heart is in need of. All I can say is: Thank you, Jesus!

That is about the funniest looking bird I have ever seen and so beautiful. Must not have that of King Fisher in my neck of the woods. See, my friend, there is a reason for everything! Just be thankful, even when bad things happen. Say thank you. It helps me and I am a much, much happier person.

What a cool bird Peter. For a Kingfisher he seems very calm.
