Stewart Island Shags

Oamaru, NZ

These birds are endemic to the south of the Southern Island of New Zealand. New Zealand has quite a few endemic Cormorant/Shag species.
This group were at the tip of a wavebreaker at the little town of Oamaru where we went to look for Penguins.

I could see where from a distance they might be deceiving, they look very much like the comorants I shot today, except with a very white belly! Very nice shot! -BJ
