My 1st priority for this my 2nd trip was to see Pied Thrush. Apparently hard to see in the Himalayas, leaving the best place to see it to the higher grounds of Sri Lanka.
I arrived at Victoria Park before dawn. A lovely temperature of 16C and very little traffic. The birds were starting to sing and were so much easier to hear well without the noise of the day and all of its commotion.
I had 2 spots to check for the bird.
1 spot only revealed Indian Blue Robin but that was a lifer for me and I also got to hear its very sharp song. No images in the dark though.
Spot 2 by the main bridge also at first gave me nothing but a Common Sandpiper. Then suddenly 2 Thrushes dropped down seemingly out of nowhere (high in the trees where they roost I presume).........I got to spend a few minutes with them in the semi dark morning. Moving slowly using large trees as a cover I managed to get fairly close though I had to crank the ISO to 1600 and shoot at slow shutter speed.
One of the best looking birds I have seen I think in all its simplicity.
