I haven't had a lifer for so so long, like so many of us. So when it was reported that a Booted Warbler was seen in Ratchaburi province I gave it a go.
Booted Warbler is a 'tree warbler' from the Iduna genus whereof I previously only have seen one, Syke's.
There were a lot of warblers and other passerines in the vegetation inbetween a dyke and a barren field. Good numbers of Yellow-breasted Buntings and Weavers. I simply could not get on to it thinking I have to hear it for starters.
As it was, a couple of Thai birders were on the same mission and they alerted me to the bird as we were 200m apart.
Once I had watched the bird a bit, very backlit light, it was easy to see it's behaviour being much different from all other birds in that area. And then as I heard the contact call it also was different but more subdued then the recordings I had downloaded.
So I stayed with the bird for atleast half an hour enjoying a lifer and the uniqueness of the bird itself.
