Birds from Top End

I saw 200 species of birds within a period of 10 days in the Top End, NT, Australia in August 2005.
Out of these, 83 were new for me. I hope these pictures will inspire others to visit the area. It was well worth the effort. My friend, Greg Anderson, from Brisbane flew up to meet me and we had a great time together. For detailed report go to the image of Greg towards the end of the gallery. All pictures were digiscoped with a Nikon 82,ED telescope and a Nikon CP 995.

I read the report your friend Greg prepared and found it interesting in many respects. Amongst other, I'm fond of geography and took an interest in Australia. The report gave an indication about the area you were moving in. Further it was interesting to see how dedicated you are to get the sight of these birds. Great job. Greetings from South Africa. A fabulous gallery especially the very difficult to find species .That whole area is a 'birdo's' dream .I have worked as a wildlife artist in and around the Top End for 20 yrs and many fond memories are recalled from viewing and experiencing your enthusiasm and skills.Thank you for sharing

Hi Peter some very good shots of top-end birds some I haven't got yet the gouldian finches and red goshawk But ive only been taking shots for less than a year. Patence is the key.

Thank you for your comment on my bird gallery. Yes, I did shoot those around my house and no, I don't handhold the 400 mm lens.

Peter - beautiful Gouldian Finch -- we didn't see that one. Also, Nancy's favorite the sulphur crested Cockatoo. Congrats on the great pictures!
