We did another hike after our Inca Trail tour ended. Here, a local guide named Leo, explains the salt pans at Salinas. This area contains more than 4,000 salt pans. Each pan produces 100 kilos of salt per month. It takes approximately one month for all the water to evaporate off the salt. The salt is available for purchase at the nearby store.
