Photographs of the restoration of Halifax bomber NA 337 which was shot down over Norway just prior to the end of WW2.
The bomber was brought up from the bottom of Lake Mjosa and later delivered in pieces to the RCAF Memorial Museum in Trenton, Ontario, where volunteers - including former Halifax bomber crew members - spent close to 10 years restoring the plane. At any given time, approximately 60 volunteers worked on the restoration. Eight men who were part of the volunteer crew passed away during this period.
A magnificent effort. Have followed the progress of the restoration of this aircraft for many years. The dedication of the volunteers who worked tirelessly on this project is something to behold. Regretably a few of the people involved did not live to see the finished product, which is a great shame. A big THANKS to all those involved in bringing this magnificent aircraft back to its former glory.
