Abandoned Land (荔枝窩與鎖羅盆)

In the north east area of New Territories in Hong Kong, there lies a number of abundant villages. Many years ago those villagers left their homeland for a number of reasons.  I have read books that said "fung-sui" being one of those.  It appears that some left their houses in such a hurry that many house appliants and even family photos were not taken away.  As a result, rumors about deadly illness and, not unexpectedly, haunted villages began to float around...

The fact is, that area is simply beautiful.  I went there about 10 years ago but could not follow the trails, which vanished quickly in the woods.  In recent years, footpaths were built so we can visit those places fairly easily.  The last visit there was relatively effortless, despite the weight of camera and lens, and 2 litres of water on my back :)

Finally, it is not advisible to visit there alone as reports of thieving in the area (most likely by illegal immigrants) are not unpopular nowadays.

Updated 4/21/2004: Big Thank You to Wilson for pointing out my mistake ("Abandoned" instead of "Abundant") :)
