Pair nesting with chicks running around in Birkenhead - never seen them before, parents very protective but not very good at hiding from trouble!

My husband told me that there was one nesting next to the hangar and was aggressively attacking anyone who got too close to it. He thought it was unusual for the bird to be in this area - Baghdad, Iraq.

Had another look at the bird and plummage is grey (same as picture) on back not black. What do they use spurs for? They are very sharp

Just found one of these (sadley) dead in our paddock, had no idea what it was, especially the spurs on the wings. What a lovely bird. Very glad to have identified it. Our bird has black plumage, white tip to tail. Thank you for your picture so we could identify.
