The Nikon 16-35 f4 VR (FX) combined with the D700 is a fairly distortion free wide angle lens of great quality, wonderful for indoor, landscape or architecture photos. Its cheaper and less bulky than the the more specialized 14-24 which is non stabilized and provides a much more usable range. Its one of my favorite walk around lens for the D700. The reviews indicate strong distortion at 16/17mm but I have found that this can be reduced by clever positioning and, eventually, post processing.
