The Esparron village of Provence was the sight of a display of falconery (bird game hunting) given by the Charles d'Arcussia society, named after the famous falconer who lived there (1554-1628). The tradition is kept alive as you can see in these pictures taken by Peter with the Nikon D300 + Sigma 150-500 and Colette with her Nikon d200 + Nikon 18-200 and her Canon Ixus (powershot) 970.
The birds are mostly larger Buzzard hybrids (Harris hawkes) rather than the smaller Peregrine variety.
