Long before screw tops, a glass stopper perhaps...maybe keep digging Pete :) A local antique dealer may have some ideas on its original use...it's quite lovely.

What a fabulous find. I wonder how old it is? From the picture, it looks pretty small. I wonder if it was used for medicine or something like that.. Excellent image of it with perfect lighting. ~BV~
