These photos were taken on a particular day in February '07, the day my wife and I went to make arrangements to have our camper scrapped. Knowing how beautiful the Berkshires are, naturally I had to bring the camera. As a photographer, I'd never worked with such huge, sweeping views, so these photos seem more like some of my very earliest landscapes, but they're really not. Despite the slightly "rough edges," I'm quite happy with these.
An old pottery kiln in Western Massachusetts, probably about thirty feet tall.
Detail of the kiln's outer wall.
The firepit inside.
Looking straight up through the chimney.
A window in the back wall of the kiln, looking in from outside.
An air vent to control temps inside. The stones at the end are some 20 feet away, while the wall is only about a foot thick.
Looking up from the base.
A snowmobile trail leaving the kiln.
Through the forest, looking deeper into it.
A fairly typical forest shot, but this one's mine, so I had to add it.
