Finger Rock Fire

Tucson, AZ

The view from my deck of a lightning-caused fire burning in the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains
north of Tucson. The fire is burning well away from civilization in very rugged terrain; the forest service
is letting this burn because there is no real threat. As of today it has grown to more than 500 acres.

Now, the cool part of this is that I took an image of this when it started from a lightning strike eight days earlier.
I was setting up the camera when I saw the lightning strike and took the picture below about a minute later:

And some of the lightning activity in the area just prior to this strike:

Great documentation Sam. The night time image is reminiscent of the big fires we had here in 2003 and 2007.

Like lava. Ready to flow downhill. Shows the haunting side of nature in sobering fashion..V

Thats amazing , I first thought it was a volcano!
Capturing the start of the blaze in the other photograph was brilliant.

Wow!! talk about being in the right place at the right time to capture the lightning strike,Sam.You must have a great daytime view from your deck.Fires like this are quite spectacular ,unless they are on your doorstep then they become frightening.V
