Feeding Time

Tucson, AZ

My youngest daughter feeding a Desert Spiny lizard (Sceloporus magister)
that we have begun to habituate. This lizard is not captive and, after a week
of feeding, will now come up to us when we are outside. This male is still not
quite as habituated at this point as was Feisty, our previous wild "pet".

I applied some selective desat to put more emphasis on the subjects.

Click on the image below for a larger view of my daughter with Feisty (and Feistette) a few years ago:

Awwwww ~ I'm jealous! I love lizards and used to enjoy "playing" with them when I lived in Baton Rouge! :)

That is a neat image and and the interplay absorbs her. I have spent many weeks in Tucson and never knew you could do that. (not that I would).

Fascinating! I had no idea lizards could respond to humans this way. I know somebody here who is trying to catch a lizard but has been unsuccessful. Maybe food is the way to go!

Terrific and fun capture, Sam.

Wow! I like to see the ease your daughter has. I may have to try this with some of the spinys in my yard. What are you feeding them?

Your daughter is fearless, Sam. Most young ladies would be scared of this guy.

That is amazing, Sam! I think it is neat that your daughter apparently has a love of reptiles like her Dad does!
