Star Trails Over the Catalina Mountains

Tucson, AZ

I stayed up to watch what again turned out to be a dud for all the media hype around the Camelopardalid Meteor Shower.
I captured 195 images taken 30 seconds apart and managed to find only one (1) meteor during what was billed as the
peak viewing time. I had a sneaky suspicion that this was probably going to be just as over-billed as other meteor shower
predictions, so I set the camera up to do some star trails. Taken from the deck of my house, overlooking the Catalina
Mountains north of Tucson (and the light pollution from the area).

Here's the one frame that actually had a Camelopardalid meteor:

Canon EOS 5D Mark III ,Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L USM II
195 images each at 30s, f/6.3, ISO 800 full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

Nice way to make lemonade out of a lemon, Sam. I stayed up too and only saw one meteor. At least you have these really cool shots of the mountains and the sky. My shots were all duds.

Well at least your 97 minutes yielded you something nice/cool.
I was willing to stay out as well but 100% cloud cover 200 miles in every direction put the dampener on that...glad it was a bust :-)

Sam, you are the master of night shots. This is absolutely fascinating! V
