Wolfman Petroglyph Panel

San Juan County, Utah view map

A short hike into Butler Wash, near Bluff, Utah, provided a very
unique set of petroglyphs. You may notice many bullet pock marks,
which I asked about when seeing more bullet marks on some petroglyphs
in Canyon De Chelly. Our Navajo guide there had said that some of this
vandalism has been attributed to religious zealots who were trying to
destroy images of what they considered to be paganism.

Cool petroglyphs - not cool vandals.

Sad to see the bullet holes, hope the bullets bounced back and injured the shooters!

So wonderful and interesting. I can't believe there's vandalism on these unique and wonderful pieces of history. Good choice in B&W. Great image.

Clean, clear image. Shame about vandalism. Zealots of all stripes are generally over the line.

Looks really good in b&w, brings out the textures so well. Fascinating iconography, and strikingly similar to petroglyphs I have seen in Baja California. I know of sites where no one will disclose precisely where they are located to discourage visitors and vandals. I find it troubling that some people feel threatened by these. Does not say much for their own faith or their security. "V"

Fascinating image, and very striking in B&W. The vandalism is distressing. V
