Take a Number

Canyonlands National Park, Island in the Sky, UT

Unfortunately, this is what the scene looked like at Mesa Arch most mornings we went out to shoot
the classic sunrise from that spot. This is from our first attempt where we thought we were
leaving early enough to beat the crowd. This shot was taken an hour before sunrise, clearly not
early enough. The skies were less than ideal so this is what I chose to shoot instead. Other
mornings where a little better, with us arriving earlier but the skies where just as uncooperative.
My last morning in Moab had me going to Dead Horse to catch a sunrise there instead.

The photographer in the white socks is fellow PBaser Dan Greenberg.

Great shot Sam! I look my very best when I am a very small part of a much larger picture.

Crowded place, indeed, new quiet locations needed instead... But a good reportage photo :)

This is a far more interesting shot than a sunrise. This happens everywhere in the world now at famous locations. Time to find new beauty spots!

Nice shot anyway Sam. Good to see Dan too.

Would not want to ruin the moment with this crowd... no sense having a "me too" shot. Great idea going to Dead Horse. A cool view of the mesa, Sam V

Boy do I ever know what you were dealing with!!
I recently visited Yellowstone and adjacent Teton park, was shocked at the amount of people at the various photo hot spots...
Like you stated, made no difference when you arrived, early or late, there were always a group of people there...

Wow, there are a lot of photographers there! Nice capture,Sam..

This is why we see so many "cliche" images - we need to find a new way of seeing these famous locations.

Dan does look natty...and yes, the crowd provided a rude awakening...a sharp-eyed appraisal of the moment...V

Too bad you didn't get what you wanted. But you sure made good use of what you had! I think this tells a great story. We are loving some of our national parks to death. V

A very common sight these days at our national parks. Sorry to hear of the less than ideal skies. V

Wow, that must've been frustrating. Looking forward to the Dead Horse shot which is on my "need to go" locations.
