The actual size was just about the size of a quarter. Including the long legs. I was very mobile and very fast when it wanted to move. The two "boxing gloves" seemed to be pincers. It would occasionally grab the wall and hold to it. When "poked" it would throw them up like a crab. And it would grab hold of object poking it and pull. It made silk and hung from it, tenaciously. It could not be shaken off. All of a sudden it would spin around in what looked like all directions at once in a blur. And then it would instantly stop in same postion it started from. It reminded me of a cartoon character in a fight with an imaginary foe. It disappeared when I went to get my macro lens.
Any suggestions as to the name of this spider? I think it is some type of "Sac" spider that came in close contact with one of the many geckos in the neighborhood. I didn't pull its legs off. I swear.

However it was
they just went.
I tripped over one of the web 'anchor' strands this spider had put to the ground. When I saw what it was I grabbed camera. The spider had a bug and was wrapping it furiously. After the spider finished wrapping the bug it descended to the bottom of the broken anchor strand. Somehow it had cut the remaining strands loose, possibly while I was getting the camera. Then it 'zoomed' back up collecting the web as it went. I could not see what it did with the web but when it got to the tip of the palm leaf ALL of the web was GONE Any suggestions as to the name of this spider? Actual size was just about the size of a quarter.
Mr. Little Redfoot and Mrs. Little Redfoot recently retired and moved to the Keys! We wish them well and hope they will keep us updated on their adventures.

Joshua and Stacy came into town this weekend. Stacy was doing engagement stuff for a friend... so Josh got to spend time with Mom and Dad. And since Mom's birthday is Friday we all got together and went to brunch at TooJays. An afterwords Abigail came home with Grandma and Poppy. As usual at most of these get togethers, most of the pictures are of Abigail, of course! :^)
If you are queasy around snakes... even dead ones, don't look!. These are NOT pretty pictures, but they do tell a story. The pump for the Koi pond had started running slow even though it had been replaced and cleaned recently. I started investigating and found this... He was not the problem. I had added a length of hose to the system and somehow the extra coil of hose had become kinked. There was a brown water snake living in the pond several years ago... I wonder.
Update:February 16, 2011. This hawk has returned several times since December. It has been here almost everyday lately. I saw it attack something on the ground yesterday. It was across the lake and I didn't have my tele-converter at hand so didn't see what it was attacking.
The newest pictures may help identify this particular hawk. I still believe it is a Sharp-shinned hawk, because of the 'squared' tail.
December 03, 2010. At breakfast I kept seeing shadows flashing across the backyard. I knew it was a large bird. I could not see what it was. It was too high to see from the window.
A few minutes later I spied this... even though he stayed for quite a long time I couldn't get good pictures. I took these from inside kitchen through the sliding glass and screen on patio. And the sun was behind him. I could not get a good angle even when he landed on the post closer to the house. Sun was really bright. He is also looking away so I didn't get good facial details.
I believe it is a Sharp Shinned hawk, because of the 'squared' tail...
Some think it may be a juvenile Red-Shouldered hawk.
