13-09-10 - Night Shoot - Icefields Parkway - Banff National Park

Nothing like having no plan for a photo shoot but to head off into the dark and see what our imaginations can dream up on the fly. Of course, having a dead calm, clear, moonless night in one of the most incredible locations on the planet does tend to make things easier. The stars barely twinkled in the cool air and the Milky Way stretched from horizon to horizon.

Besides the usual fleets of satellites skipping across the sky, we saw many shooting stars all evening. There was supposed to be good potential for Northern lights, but nary a glimpse of them.

My friend, Dan Barnes and I headed from Calgary at 4:00pm and didn't get back home until 6:00am. A bit of sleep recovery and an hour or two of editing and voila, a series of images that didn't exist 24 hours ago. Well worth the price of admission. Maybe sleep deprivation is a good way to get the creative juices flowing??
